In 2014 Carrier was commissioned to mastermind a complete HVAC system to help regulate the temperature and humidity levels inside the Sistine Chapel in Rome. Centuries of pollution, environmental influences and human exposure (breathing, perspiration, carbon dioxide…) was causing the masterpieces that cover the walls and ceilings of the historic church to deteriorate as the breathtaking spectacle attracts increasing numbers of visitor each year. Carrier meticulously designed an intricate system of air conditioners, heaters, temperature and humidity controls, filtration, ventilation, humidifiers and dehumidifiers to help counteract the devastating effects on the paintings and allow them to be viewed and appreciated for centuries to come.
